Goa in September & October: The Best Keep-It-On-The-Low Travel Season

If you ask locals when Goa actually looks its best, a lot of us won’t say December. We’ll tell you it’s September and October.

This is the shoulder season. The heavy monsoon downpours start backing off, the skies open up, and everything around you is ridiculously green. It’s that exact window where you get the lush monsoon scenery, but without getting completely drenched every time you step outside.

What the Weather Actually Feels Like

September still gets the occasional quick rain spell, but they pass fast, leaving behind cool breezes and washed-clean roads. Daytime temperatures sit around a comfortable 28°C to 30°C.

By October, the rain pretty much wraps up. You get bright, sunny days and cool ocean breezes in the evening. Humidity drops a lot compared to July and August, which makes riding a scooter around the coastal roads or sitting at a cliffside spot at sunset genuinely enjoyable.

No Crazy Crowds, No Stiff Prices

The best part about this time of year? Peace and quiet.

You aren't fighting for parking, waiting an hour for a table at popular cafes, or dealing with packed beaches. Because peak season hasn't officially kicked off yet, flight rates are reasonable, and you can easily land great deals on luxury stays and villas that double in price by December. It’s ideal if you’re traveling as a couple, working remotely for a few weeks, or just looking to unwind without the noise.

Water Sports & Beach Shacks: What’s Open?

People always ask if things are open during these months. Here’s the real breakdown:

  • September: The ocean can still be a bit choppy, so main beach water sports are usually on pause. But river cruises on the Mandovi, backwater kayaking, and trips to roaring waterfalls like Dudhsagar are in full swing.

  • October: The sea calms down completely. You’ll see local crews starting to assemble the famous wooden beach shacks along Candolim, Calangute, and Anjuna. Water sports—parasailing, jet skis, banana rides—come back online one by one.

Things You Shouldn't Miss

  • Hit the Forts at Sunset: Chapora Fort and Fort Aguada hit differently right now. The sea is dramatic, the grass on the hills is bright green, and the breeze is incredible.

  • Take a Walk Through Fontainhas: Panaji’s Latin Quarter looks amazing under post-monsoon light. The bright yellow, red, and blue Portuguese houses make for a great afternoon walk.

  • Spice Plantations in Ponda: The farms are fully lush right now. Going for a plantation tour and eating a fresh, traditional Goan thali served on a banana leaf is well worth a half-day trip.

  • Grab Authentic Goan Souvenirs: Before heading back, don't forget to grab some real Goan cashews. Drop by our Golden Kaju stores in Candolim, Calangute, or Anjuna to sample freshly roasted cashews, flavored nuts, and authentic local spices to pack for home.
